It's almost an year last Mahashivratri I had taken up the 42 day shivanga Sadhana. In addition to the daily practice the additional changes I had to bring about in my lifestyle was not very easy. What was one of the most challenging part was that of bhiksha, I will save this for some other day.
So we were supposed to culminate our sadhana at Dhyanlinga, Isha Yoga Center Coimbatore a day before Mahashivratri. I was there did all the processes, sat in the evening kirtan and we started to walk towards velliangiri around 10 30 pm in the night. Reached the base around 11 45 pm and what was lying ahead the next 16 hrs I could not comprehend, 13 kms round trip!
The first 2hrs I was climbing up with full enthusiasm, chanting all the way, the climbed look really tough especially because I was bare foot.
As time passed by it became tougher and tougher, I had been to yamnotri, Kedarnath the air is much thinner and colder. But the sheer steepness and rough paths made this trek all the more challenging.
But there were 5000 people holding a stick in one hand and a torch in another, just chanting and moving forward, how could I possibly stop. Made it to the 6th hill by 4 30 am. I could see the temple now, with lights and the path lit by hundreds of torch, but I was tired, took rest for some time and started climbing again. Reached the top, to see a huge queue of devotees waiting for Shiva's darshan, another 45 minutes to get there and finally. Sat done with prasad and vibhuti on my forehead, feeling happy. Enjoying the beautiful view, soaking in the sun and the energy of this wonderful kshetram.
Now another half of the journey, to climb down. Here is where all the trouble begins 😅 its 8 am, the sun has come up, onset of summer, the stones have already done their job on the feet, the muscles had already generated enough of lactic acid, but you have to climb down. Meanwhile I made a friend,a fellow climber, started descending. Struggling with the pain and the hot sun as the time passes by, only our wonderful conversations and how we would go down and sleep, kept us going😛. Had no major meal, sorry none except lime water and some fruits.
We finally reach the base point by around 3 pm, just exhausted but really happy that we could complete the pilgrimage. Went straight to a restaurant, had a nice sumptuous meal and headed towards the suryakund.
One dip in the chilling energised water by 3 copper lingams, it seemed like all the pain and tiredness had vanished. Felt rejuvenated and went ahead to mediate at the dhyanlingam. Sat there for almost an hour, am not sure but half of the time I guess I was sleeping sitting there 😅. What a pilgrimage and experience it was, and then the most awaited night of Mahashivratri Isha's 25th, first of mine. What wonderful 3 days it was, until I got back home. Don't ask me how I was, 15 days of physiotherapy, using this oil that oil, my thigh muscles were very bad. After all the practices of Shiva Namaskar and Angamardana, I was thankful that I had been consistent in following them, otherwise things would have been even worse.
Just really grateful I could complete it.
Will definitely climb again, hoping it will be a little easier, with meditation at the Sadhguru Shri Brahma spot,7th hill which I missed this time.
Jai Gurudev!
Sarvam Shivamayam 🙏🏻
